Six Steps to a Wonderful Workspace

What do you feel when you walk into your workspace?

If you’re anything like me a year ago, you’ll instantly feel stressed. The ever-expanding mountain of coffee cups in the corner and the millions of sheets sprawled across the desk was slightly overwhelming at times. Perhaps you feel unmotivated? You’ve spent countless hours in this space staring at the same four walls and now you’re bored sick of it. Or maybe a wave of satisfaction comes over you as you enter your office space. You’ve taken the time to create an environment that is organised, stimulating, and enjoyable to be in.

At HumbleWorks, we are passionate about helping you create a workspace that is healthy, comfortable, and that enables you to thrive at work. Whether you work in the office, from your home study or kitchen, your space should allow you to engage, collaborate, connect and be productive while remaining calm and relaxed.

In this blog, we’ll give you six tips on how to achieve that ideal workspace.

  1. Nail your ergonomics

Pinterest is addictive. It’s easy to spend hours gathering trendy workspace ideas and choosing the perfect colour scheme! But while the style of your office is important, comfort and practicality must lie at the core if your space is to maximise your productivity. That’s where ergonomics come in.

An ergonomic office design, by improving your posture, will eliminate the development of aches and pains caused by sitting for long periods, as well as improving your mental wellbeing.

  1. Keep your eyes on the goal

Organisation is key to a sustainable and effective workspace. Having visual reminders of your goals in your office space will not only keep you on track with your work, but will motivate you to work harder, smarter, and more efficiently.

  1. Aim for space if you can

Getting out of your chair and moving your body frequently throughout your workday will boost productivity. Sitting for too long can often make us feel sluggish and unmotivated, so if you can, create a space that will allow you to stretch and pace around every 30 minutes. A high table coupled with regular screen breaks are key to maintaining energy and productivity. Sit less, stand up, and move around more often.

  1. Put your personality into it

Your workspace should reflect who you are, so fill it with things that inspire you, motivate you, and make you happy. This could be pictures of friends and family, drawings by your children, postcards, whatever you like! Every personalisation, no matter how small, will create an emotional connection between you and your office.

If you are a lover of plants, then go wild! Plants are wonderful because they add colour and a natural element to your workspace. They are also proven to create an environment that increases productivity. And go for as much sunlight as possible, or in lieu of that, go for good lighting: it will make a huge difference.

The more stimulated your brain is by the things around you, the more you will get those creative juices flowing.

  1. Keep drinking water

There are many benefits to drinking water, but the obvious one here is that it will make you need the bathroom regularly. This means you will be forced to get away from your desk, stretch your legs, and get your blood flowing for a few minutes. A regular change of scenery will also help clear your head and may even pave the way for that all-important ‘lightbulb moment.’ Oh, and make sure you fill up your water bottle on the way back!

  1. Stay clean, stay messy

“If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?” – Albert Einstein

There are two types of people: those who gain clarity and motivation from a tidy desk, and those whose inspiration flows from a wonderfully cluttered space.

Whatever category you fall into, embrace it. Consider which type of workspace environment makes you feel most at ease, and then go with it. As long as your ergonomics are in check and you have a comfortable workspace, you’ll be just fine.

Create a space that is happy and healthy, and you will reap great rewards.

We hope these tips help you to boost your workspace productivity just like they did for us at HumbleWorks HQ.
